What is the Mongol Rally?
Elementally, it's an event where groups of people drive from the UK to Mongolia. The catch is, the realization of this is much more complicated.

The decisions that are to be made for such a venture are far beyond that of your normal rally. To get fake married, or not fake married. To weigh the merits of a taco vs. ice cream truck. To decide which passport to use for which border crossing to not cause international incidents. All these things have to be set before we even leave home.

Semi-legitimate reason for rally's existence: The Mongol Rally is a charity rally. This is not to say we're not planning on having one hell of a time doing it, or that charity is why we're doing it (we're frankly about as far from saintly as you'll find), but given that the event does hold decent marketing potential, we're all for some folks in need benefiting. We'll be supporting Mercy Corps in our endeavor. Since being founded in 1979, Mercy Corps has aided people in over 100 nations, and as they are presently active in Mongolia, we thought they'd be a good organization to help. Please refer to our Charities page for more information.

Who are we? We're a bunch of ne'erdowells and misfits soon to possess college degrees. What better why to celebrate than buy an ambulance from a rural southern fire department, and drive it to Mongolia?

Our
route is yet to be set (we probably won't know it till we're finished, and have arrived in Ulaanbaatar), but sure a fuck we're going south. We'll definitely start with the standard UK to Bohemia to Balkans to Turkey. We'll then hit Georgia enroute to Azerbaijan where we'll catch a ferry from Baku to Turkmenbashi. After that it's a straight shot through Central Asia (Turkmenistan to Uzbekistan to Tajikistan to Kyrgyzstan to Kazakhstan), and onward through Russia to our destination of Ulaanbaatar.

The rally launches
24th July 2010. Between then and now we need to: prep the ambo for a long overland trek, raise as much money for Mercy Corps as we can (it is a charity rally after all), get the require boatload of visas, manage to somehow ship an ambulance over an ocean (perhaps an arctic component will need to be added), plus a whole list of other things that make my left arm feel numb.

Note: We're always looking for donations and sponsors. Please, check out the respective pages if you think you'd be able to help.
